During my sophomore year we were warming up for a volleyball game at Brea when [former El Mo student] Vince Morris hit the ball really hard down the line.  It nailed Mr. Pongco right in the face and even left a dent in his forehead where his glasses were.  To this day Pongco still doesn't wear his glasses.

During sophomore year I remember when we had a food and water fight behind the library. The epic battle started with two warring factions; two fateful groups of sophomores against each other. In mid battle the hardcore seniors that hung out by the pool flanked us and obliterated our forces. We were not match for the behemoth seniors. Everyone was throwing food and water bottles everywhere at each other. It was memorable because it was our whole class coming together at lunch to have fun and be rebellious.

Alex Sagona

“Freshman year at cheer camp, senior Alix Taylor and I went into all of the cheer dorms after curfew because we were bored and had nothing better to do; we stole the disposable cameras and wasted all the film on questionable pictures. What can you say…we were stupid freshman.”

Kimberley McCoy

“During  my sophomore year,  seniors Ray Holley and Kevin Borton, along with the rest of their group of friends, made a giant hop-scotch that went down and around the hallway. I just remember them convincing me to join them in their ‘hop-scotch’ extravaganza; it was amazing.”

Brian Stiefel-Smith

“My freshman year my brother, Brandon Stiefel-Smith, was trash canned by his friends in the hallway; they were all joking around and his friends decided to pick him up and throw him in a trash can.”

Jaclyn Padin

One day in class I was explaining to Mr. Ahern that if you look at someone's elbow while you're giving them a high five that you'll hit their hand perfectly.  He said "Okay, let's try it!" So I went to high five him and he slammed me in the forehead.  I almost fell over backwards.

It was my first day at El Modena as a junior as I was a transfer student from Mater Dei. I was nervous walking through the halls on the morning of my first day unsure if I would be able to make friends easily. But after a few hours of classes and my first lunch all the juniors were so welcoming and embraced me as a new friend. It was nice that on my first day of school at El Modena that I had already made so many new friends.

Stephen Pollard

“It was so cool,” senior Stephen Pollard replied when asked about the Glow Me assemblies in 2007.  One of the assemblies was at MORP, and because of the first’s popularity the school body asked for another at the student-teacher faculty basketball game.  When asked his role in the assembly, Pollard replied “I was in the dragon, which we had made out of cardboard and glow sticks, and the school loved it.”

Kyle Aukshunas

“Ninety-nine luftballoons…” senior Kyle Aukshunas crooned into the microphone for ASB elections in 2009.  When questioned about why he sang the classic German pop hit “99 Luftballoons” Aukshunas laughed and said he thought of the song and senior Jeff York thought of imitating Soviet Union Premier Khrushchev during the speech.  Although puzzled, the student body laughed along with Auskhunas as he banged his shoe yelling an 80’s hit.
